the SkinForm structure
The SkinForm structure is an adaptive, pneumatic structure that transforms dynamically in response to context.
The SkinForm structure functions as an architectural object in an urban or commercial situation, such as a busy transport stop or office tower lobby. It creates a dynamic focal point and provides a range of information about the environment. It is mobile and approximately 6 x 3 x 3m in size. The SkinForm structure consists of a series of intelligent air-filled arches comprising a multilayered skin that allows for digitally controlled arms to transform the shape in realtime.
Each arch contains tiny sensors that capture flows of people and environmental data (temp, airflow, humidity) in a cumulative manner, developing a context-aware body of knowledge about a given space. Due to its modular, reconfigurable nature, the SkinForm technology can be applied to any variation of small to medium sized public installation situations. It can function in commercial applications requiring aesthetic information display or as an eye-catching talking point for a social function.
Each arch has a robotical foot that controls the movement of each individual as part of the larger responsive system.
